Application of psychological intervention based on the concept of acceptance and commitment therapy in caregivers of pediatric burns

Abstract: Objective: To explore the effect of psychological intervention based on the concept of acceptance and commitment therapy in caregivers of burn patients with the view to providing theoretical guidance and practical basis for clinical application of this program.Methods: Using convenience sampling method, 110 caregivers of burn patients in Burn Department of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Shandong First Medical University were randomly divided into control group and test group.The routine health education was carried out in the control group; the experimental group was supplemented by psychological intervention based on admission commitment therapy on the basis of routine care. The general information questionnaire, Self Ratinganxiety Scale(SAS),Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale(CD-RISC) and Herth Hope Index scale(HHI) were used.The scores of the two groups of subjects at T1 and T2 were investigated.Results: Before the intervention, there was no significant difference in the scores of SAS, CD-RISC and HHI between the two groups(P﹥0.05). After the intervention, the SAS score of the patients in the experimental group was lower than that of the control group, and the scores of CD-RISC and HHI were higher than those of the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion: Psychological intervention based on the concept of acceptance and commitment therapy can effectively improve the acceptance of psychological crisis in caregivers of pediatric burn patients, improve negative emotions such as guilt, anxiety, depression, and increase the level of mental resilience and hope.
