Effects of acceptance and commitment therapy on the mental state and quality of life of breast cancer survivors

Abstract: Objective To study the effects of acceptance and commitment therapy on the mental state and quality of life of breast cancer survivors. Methods From June 2019 to December 2019, 64 patients with breast cancer who survived after operation admitted in our hospital were selected as the research objects, and the patients were randomly divided into control group and observation group by drawing lots method, with 32 cases in each group. The control group was given routine nursing, the observation group was given acceptance and commitment therapy. The scores of quality of life and psychosocial adaptation were compared between the two groups. Results After intervention, the scores of physical function,role function, social function, cognitive function, emotional function and general health status in the two groups significantly increased, while the scores of fatigue, nausea and vomiting, pain, insomnia, shortness of breath, loss of appetite,constipation, diarrhea, perception of economic hardship significantly decreased, and those in the observation group were better than the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05). After intervention, the scores of self acceptance and self-esteem, anxiety/depression, sense of belonging, attitude, self-efficacy and self-control in the two groups significantly increased, and those in the observation group were higher than the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05). Conclusion Acceptance and commitment therapy applied in breast cancer survivors can significantly improve the psychosocial adaptation and quality of life, which is worth promoting.
