Abstract: The large gradient high magnetic field(LGHMF)is a special artificial high static magnetic field and at a special position within LGHMF,the apparent gravity level of the diamagnetic material can be changed to simulate a weightlessness status called diamagnetic levitation.Compared with other established devices or techniques simulating the weightlessness environment or the biological effects of weightlessness, the diamagnetic levitation technology is closer in mechanics to the real space weightlessness, and it can constantly and steadily maintain the simulated microgravity condition which makes it more suitable for biological experiments exposed to long-term weightlessness condition. However, the application of the diamagnetic levitation technology under LGHMF in biological research is still in the phenomena revealing and fundamental research stages. There are many scientific issues and application directions that are worth exploring. In this paper, the progresses of biological study in the diamagnetic levitation under LGHMF condition, including animals, plants, microorganisms, cells, and biomacromolecules, were reviewed. Moreover, the future application of the diamagnetic levitation technology were prospected.
