Abstract: This paper selects two entrepreneurs from a traditional and a modern cultural enterprise respectively,and studies the entrepreneur’s competency by the grounded theory.The process of analysis goes through three stages.The study has shown that the competency of cultural industry entrepreneurs includes four dimensions,namely entrepreneurial motivation,entrepreneurial personality and trait,entrepreneurial skill and entrepreneurial resource.The onion model for culture industry entrepreneurs’ competency is built on the basis of the above research.The main differences between the entrepreneurs traditional and modern cultural enterprises are entrepreneurial motivation and professional background.The love for culture and arts,strong sense of social responsibility and innovative thinking and ability are more important characteristics for the entrepreneurs from cultural industry than other industrial entrepreneurs.
