Abstract: After the collapse of the Imamate of Yemen in 1962,the newborn republican government has pursued political scheme beyond religious sects, leading to the marginalization of the Zaydis. To improve their survival conditions, the Zaydis sought revival in both political and social domains, which promoted the formation of the Houthis and its six-year confrontation with Ali Abdullah Saleh’s regime. After the outbreak of the"Arab spring",the Houthis took advantage of the power vacuum in transitional period, formed an alliance with Saleh against Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi regime and occupied many Yemeni provinces including Saana and Aden.Since March 2015,Saudi Arabia, facing the border threat by the Houthis, formed the allied Arab forces to fight against the Houthis, leading to a North-South confrontation between the two sides.
