Abstract: There is a close relationship between religion and politics. Islam has greatly influenced Middle East politics after the 7th century, and the modern Middle East politics is further impacted by Islam profoundly. Islam is one of the most important factors shaping the nation-state-building in this region, however, due to the lack of coordination,Islam produced dual impacts on nation-state building of the Middle East. Saudi Arabia is a good example. On the one hand,Islam shapes Saudi Arabia, while on the other hand,it hobbles the course of nation-state-building. The source lies in the historical influences,Islam’s own characteristics and the phenomenon of its being out of step with reality sometimes.
