Abstract: Metro train air conditioning differs from traditional residential air conditioning a lot in many aspects, like the bad running environment, complicated operation conditions, size constraints and the energy efficiency ratio of typical metro train air conditioning is only 2.0~2.3. A refrigeration system numerical model verified by experimental data was developed in this paper, and analyzed the bad energy efficiency ratio caused by the drop of condensing air volume. Based on this, a new method using heat recovery from exhaust air was proposed. The simulation results indicated that the energy efficiency ratio of metro train air conditioning with exhaust air heat recovery can be greatly improved by 7.5% under rating condition, and the improvement could be greater at off-design conditions. Apart from this, the energy efficiency is insensitive to both the volume of exhaust air and the size of sub-cooler. The present results could be valuable to the optimization design of metro train air conditioning.
