Abstract: In the development,evaluation and usage of biomedical optical imaging method a biomedical tissue phantom with stable optical and mechanical parameters during a long period of time is needed,so that the optical imaging experi-ments can be repeated.Those phantoms are made by certain substance mixed with some certain scattering particles and absorbing particles.Common scattering particles include lipids,polymer,micro-spheres,metal oxides,gold nano-parti-cles etc.,while absorbing particles(and its solution)include blood,Indian ink,molecular dyes etc.The common sub-stances to simulate characteristics of tissue include silicone,fibrin and Poly(vinyl alcohol)cryogel (PVA-C)etc.The state of art durable tissue phantoms are reviewed and analyzed in optical properties involving absorbing index,scattering index and refractive index as well as medical properties involving elasticity and viscoelasticity.The advantages,disad-vantages in biocompatibility,difficulty in preparation and time consumed and durability are compared.And its scope issummarized depending on the characteristics of the tissue phantoms.At last,the development of the phantoms is dis-cussed.
