Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of tacrolimus ointment for the treatment of lichen striatus. Methods: Fiftyeight patients with lichen striatus were randomly divided into two groups, 30 cases in the treated group and 28 in the control group. The treated group were given tacrolimus ointment while the control group received hydrocortisone butyrate cream twice daily for 6 weeks, or until complete disappearance of the cutaneous lesions. Patients were followed up 2, 4, 6 weeks and 6months after completion of the treatment course. Results: The effective rates in the treated group at 2, 4 and 6 weeks were16.67%, 56.67% and 80%, respectively. The effective rates in the control group were 21.43%, 67.86% and 82.14%, respectively. There were no significant differences in the effective rates between the two groups at all time points(P>0.05). Conclusion: Topical tacrolimus ointment is effective with fewer adverse events for lichen striatus.
