The Reform and Development Trend of Japan’s Financial Sector Comprehensive Statistics after the Financial Crisis

Abstract: After the outbreak of the international financial crisis,all countries generally recognize that the existing statistical data are insufficient to distinguish the risk accumulation and the economic and financial fragility,so they require their statistical departments to strengthen the construction of the statistical functions. Japan is one of the countries that take actions promptly,and it began to reform its financial sector comprehensive statistics after the crisis. The paper firstly explains the reform direction of Japanese financial sector comprehensive statistics,and then compares Japan’s reform with that of other developed countries. In succession,the paper explains three series of data recently issued by Japan’s central bank: the first is the data of the debt securities and the direction of loans flow; the second is the data of the different period of loan,debt securities and deposit; the third is the data of the securities products balance,and describes recent trends of the these data series. Finally,the paper analyzes the challenges faced by the financial sector comprehensive statistics in the future.
