Abstract: Now the step of population aging is accelerating in China, and the health of elderly tends to be more concerned. Previous researches have indicated that social capital is one of the major factors affecting health, but it is rare to focus on the path of the social capital influencing on the elderly health. Based on survey data from Xi-Hai-Gu Area we use lifestyle as a mediator to study on the effect and path of social capital on the health of the elderly through simultaneous equations model. The empirical study shows that the social capital impacts on the health of the elderly significantly,of which directly effect is 0. 638 and mediating effect by the way of lifestyle is 0. 108.Not only are there direct effect on the physiological and the mental health of elderly by social capital, but also the indirect effect through lifestyle on the physiological and the mental health of elderly by social capital is significant. However, the mediation effect is less than the direct effect.
