Abstract: Different from its military base deployment in Saudi Arabia and Iraq which encountered consistent ups and downs, the US military bases in Kuwait,Qatar,Bahrain,UAE and Oman remain relatively stable. The US military bases in the aforementioned five countries constitute a string of pearls " stretching from north to south in the Gulf,i.e.the north bases in Kuwait, the central bases in Bahrain and Qatar, and the south bases in UAE and Oman. The functions of the US " string of pearls " are three-folds:handling Iraqi chaos and countering " Islamic State " radicals in the North, deterring Iranian threat in the East and curbing Yemeni sectarian conflict in the South. The US military bases have formed a security wall against the multi-dimensional threats against the US predominance and the US allies’ sovereignty in the region. It connects us military bases in Turkey in the North with the bases in Djibouti in the South, forming a larger String of Pearls" in the Middle East.
