Abstract: Horses have special and close relationship with human beings. Among innumerous ancient cultural relics, the charms of the horses are displayed in various forms. Seen from the stone ceremonial horse statues in front of the Qianling Mausoleum and the sancai-glazed pottery horses unearthed from the attendant tombs, it is known that first, the people accompanied with ceremonial horses must have high ranks and statuses;second, the ceremonial horses must be carefully chosen steeds;third, the ceremonial horses must have ifne ifttings and ornaments. The gilt horse ornaments and some delicate horse ifttings unearthed from the tombs of Yongtai Princess and Yide Prince of the Tang Dynasty hinted that these two tombs would have equipped with exquisitely made and luxuriously ornamented“color-painted wooden ceremonial horses”.
