Abstract: One-dimensional mathematical model for ballistic plugging process is developed. Based on Recht’s ballistic impact theory, an analysis of the deformation,failure and mass loss of the projectile-plug impact system is performed, six stages which are possible in a plugging process are presented, the governing equations for each stage are derived respectively. Using numerical techniques, the predictions of residual velocity, ballistic limit, residual masses of both projectile and plug, geometric sizes and contact time, are all achieved. Predi cted results are in good agreement with existing data.
