A New Study of the Theory of the Electromagnetic Stress Gage

Abstract: The principle described by C. Yong, R. Fowles and R.P . Swigt in their paper[1]can be supplemented to make it more strict and perfect .In this paper,based on the theory of elastic-plastic waves and Faraday’s law for the electromagnetic induction, it has been proved that the time derivative of the induced electromotive force for an lectromagnetic estress gage is always divectly proportional to the difference between the two stresses on both ends of the sensing element swept by one dimensional plane waves, No matter how discontinuities of stresses or of particle velocities may exist in cross sections between the ends of the sensing element, the above-mentioned relation is always correct. The paper further shows that an electromagnetic stress gage is essentially an electromagnetic impulse gage, and predicts that ω -t,I-t and σ -t profiles can be obtained if a constant or a linear decay presure wave encounters the sensitive e lement .Thus it appears helpful to analyses of experimental results .
