Abstract: By means of given displacement function and the minimum energy theory, am approximate analytieal solution for the nonlinear problems involved in the short crown-type corrugated shell is obtained from the nonlinear differential equations of cylindrical isotropic plate and the linear differential equations of short cylindrical shell. The approximate solution is not so complicated, its calculation is much simpler than numerical solution,the results of such an approximate analytical solution coincide well with the experimental results. When the ratio (w/h) is as high as 30, the error in theoretical center displacement, is still within 8%. Therefore the resalts and suggested method are useful for engineering design.
