Marketization Process and Regional Economic Development Differences

Abstract: We establish a semilogarithmic model of regional economic development decision,and use Chinese provincial panel data from 2001 to 2011 as sample to decompose the contribution of marketization to regional economic development difference by Shapley value method.Then,we discuss the mechanisms that allow market-oriented reform widen regional economic development inequality.It is found that,market-oriented reform contributes the13.18%to regional economic development difference,the marketization difference is an important reason for the imbalance of regional economic development.Market-oriented reform exists threshold effect on regional economic development,which can promote the economic development at a faster pace in developed area,and at a slower pace in less developed areas.This kind of Matthew Effect making the strong much stronger is the internal mechanism that leads to regional economic development gap.
