Abstract: Objective To analyze the association between oxygen therapy, clinical complications and retinopathy of prematurity. Methods Two hundred and thirty-six premature infants were enrolled and under-went ophthalmologic examination to find whether there were ROP. Application of oxygen therapy and clinical complications were analyzed. Results Thirty (1 2.7%)of 236 cases developed ROP. The incidence of ROP in oxygen-inspiration group (1 4.1%)was higher than that in non-oxygen-inspiration group (4.0%)at gesta-tion age of 28~30 weeks (P<0.05 ). There were no significant differences between oxygen-inspiration group and non-oxygen-inspiration group at gestation age of 31 ~33 weeks and 34~36 weeks (P>0.05 ). The inci-dence of prethreshold ROP in oxygen-inspiration group (1 1.1%)was higher than that in non-oxygen-inspira-tion group (2.0%)(P<0.05 ). Between ROP and Non-ROP groups, there were significant difference in sep-sis,intracranial hemorrhage, transfusion rate (26.7%vs.5.3%,1 3.3%vs.2.9%and 40.0%vs.1 4.1%re-spectively,P<0.05 ). There were no significant difference in respiratory distress syndrome, pulmonary surfac-tants,apnea,fasting over seven days (P>0.05 ). Conclusion Shorter gestational age, time of supplemental oxygen, sepsis, intracranial hemorrhage and transfusion may be closely related to the development of ROP. It is necessary to pay high attention to premature infants on ROP,with preventive measures.
