Abstract: The steady simulation model of YC4E170-31 turbocharger diesel engine was built with GT-Power software and was calibrated with experimental data. The transformation of steady model to transient model was realized by constructing Maps of some key parameters with operating conditions. With the transient model, the simulation of load increase at constant speed was carried out on a turbocharged diesel engine with EGR.The results show the exhaust deteriorates due to the decrease of air-fuel ratio caused by the lag of turbocharger under the transient condition. The oxygen mass fraction in the intake has a greater influence on NOx emission than EGR rate. For the same opening of EGR valve, the EGR rate overshoots under transient conditions compared with steady conditions. It is necessary to develop a new EGR control strategy in transient conditions substituting for the unfavorable conventional EGR control methods due to the intake state changes.
