Abstract: “Ghost town” originally referred to the cities with mythology and supernatural, but now with new semantic migration phenomenon in the process of urbanization, the word especially means urban areas in the vacancy rate is too high, or even abandoned in the process of urbanization. In addition, “Ghost town” is broadly concerned not only because of its universality, but also the severe waste of land resources, which results in huge economic losses and serious damage to hinder positive urban developments. Through research and analysis, the article sorts ghost towns into disaster “ghost towns”, declining type “ghost towns”, planning type “ghost towns”. In addition, planning type “ghost towns” can also be sorted into further classified as planning advance type “ghost towns”, planning lag type “ghost towns”, real estate type“ghost towns”. In order to put an end to ghost town, city managers and planners can prevent the phenomenon through ra-tional planning and focusing on the city’s cultural and ecological harmony. What’s more, more measures such as implant-ing emerging industry, transferring urban function and perfecting supporting facilities can be taken to restore the region’s life and vitality of formed “ghost town”.
