Abstract: The temperature field in the Bridgman-Stockbarger directional solidification has been studied.The study focuses on the variations of the temperature gradient and the growth velocity on the solid/liquid interface of a finitelength specimen solidifying upward, the ambient temperature distribution of equipment, the axial temperature distribution of a specimen, and the way to raise the temperature gradient. The experimental results show that the solidification condition is steady and controllable in the middle part of a finitelength specimen, It is the most effective way to raise the temperature gradient if a small inner diameter heat booster is fitted to the bottom of the furnace,
