Study on Laser-UV Compound Mutation Breeding of Astaxanthin producer Haematococcus pluvialis

Abstract: Laser-UV compound mutation breeding of astaxanthin pr oducer Haematococcus pluvialis was investigated.The growth rate of optimum c ondition and astaxanthin accumulation rate of sub-optimal illumination was cons idered as screenign index.Two mutants were selected after UV and laser-UV compo und mutation respectively,and their physiological characters were compared.The r esults indicated that astaxanthin accumulation rate of UV-mutant was increased 37.8%,but the growth rate was decreased.However,in laser-UV compound mutation,t ow index of the mutant were higher than that of the initial strain and UV-mutan t,the contents of astaxanthin after cultured 30 days was increased by 52.2% as c ompared with the intitial.The result of electron microscopic examination showed that the chloroplasts was proliferation by laser.This also indicated that the im prove of growth inhibition was concerned with the changes of ultrastructures.
