Abstract: The effect of hot deformation of the isothermal precipitation kinetics of Mg_2Si and the quenching sensitivity in Al-Mg-Si alloy treated by rare earth elements was investigated. It has been found that hot defomation accelerates Mg_2Si precipitation in the alloy remarkably. The age-hardening ability of the alloy quenched directly after hot working is sensitive to its cooling velocity. To obtain a fine and dispersive GP-zone the water temperature for quenching after hot working should not be higher than 50℃.
