Abstract: Objective To study the effect of safety management on nursing errors in unattended neonatal ward. Methods 982 newborn from unattended neonatal ward in our hospital from January 2013 to December 2014 were selected. They were divided into the control group (n=425) and the observation group (n=557) according to the time sequence. The control group was implemented routine nursing measures while the observation group was implemented safety management and routine nursing measures. Results There were 5 cases of medication errors (1.18%), 17 cases of catheter falling (4.00%), 16 cases of fluid extravasation (3.76%), 7 cases of subcutaneous bleeding (1.65%) and 22 cases of skin allergies (5.18%) in control group. There were 1 case of medication errors (0.18%), 8 cases of catheter falling (1.44%), 7 cases of liquid leakage (1.26%), 2 cases of subcutaneous bleeding (0.36%) and 10 cases of skin allergy (1.80%) in the observation group. The reporting rate of 5 nursing errors for observation group was significantly lower than that of the control group with statistical difference (χ2≥3.945, P<0.05). Parent satisfaction rate (very satisfied) of observation group (48.29%, 269cases) was significantly higher than that of the control group (33.41%, 142cases). Dissatisfaction rate for observation group (1.08%, 6cases) was significantly lower than that of the control group (8.47%, 36 cases). The total satisfaction rate for observation group (81.87%, 456 cases) was significantly higher than that of control group (70.59%, 300 cases) with statistical difference (χ2≥17.308, P<0.05).Conclusion The incidence of nursing errors in unattended neonatal ward was high. Safety management can significantly reduce the incidence of nursing errors and improve parent satisfaction, which was of important application value for nursing management in unattended neonatal ward.
