Abstract: Objective To discuss the relation between the average length of day and medical insurance and patients' out-of-pocket expense in a hospital from 2011 to 2015.Methods Analyzed the length of stay, the category of inpatient expense of all inpatients in this hospital in recent 5 years. Results The average length of stay decreased year by year and the inpatient expense was on the rise. The average length of stay and medical expense per capita of medical insurance patients were higher than those of patients at their own expense. Conclusion Shortening the average length of stay could improve social benefit and economic effectiveness and reduce inpatient expenses, which could achieve rational use of health resources.
