Abstract: Aiming at the issues that the whole long straw blocked on feeding or straw pass through the knotter when the whole long straw was baled by using the existing baler, the side feeding type pick-up baler for long straw was researched and designed to avoid the phenomena such as the straw pass through the knotter and bundles scattered. A big diameter pick-up device with 5 bars, a half-open feeding cavity and a tripod type conveying and feeding mechanism was developed, and feeding mechanism was simulated by using ADAMS. The experiments were carried out. The results indicated that the fully bale rate of the baler was 99.7%, rate of the regular baler was 97.5%, rate of resisting to fall was 96.6%. The baler solved the lower picking effciency, and the blocked straw on feeding inlet. And it met the need of forage harvesting.
