Abstract: The Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) department in general hospitals in China has several disadvantages in the respect of developing environment. On the basis of status quo, history and practical experience accumulated, the authors analyzed the feasibility of a new model, which aims to tie up the management of the TCM department and that of a western medicine one (X department), in terms of discipline development, human resource construction, medical legislation or regulation and hospital management. In addition, the problems, which might occur during the pilot operation of the new model, and their possible solutions were discussed. The new model is considerably feasible in the current social environment in China, and is conductive to the development of of TCM, X department and the hospital in general. Therefore, this new model is worth applying in general hospitals in China and can be further optimized in practice.
