Abstract: Objective To study the effect of application of PDCA cycle in controlling infection of outpatient operating room. Methods In total of 400 patients received operation in outpatient operating room in our hospital were included in this study. According to the random number table, patients were divided into observation group and control group randomly. In control group, routine management measures in outpatient operating room were taken to manage patients, while in observation group, PDCA cycle management mode were applied to control patients' infection. The operation time and length of stay of patients in the two groups were observed. The success rate of operation, incision healing rate and postoperative satisfaction of patients in the two groups were recorded. The infection prevalence in the two groups was detected. Results The operation time and length of stay of patients in observation group were shorter than that in control group. The success rate of operation (91.0%), incision healing rate (85.5%) and patient satisfaction (93.5%) in observation group were significantly higher than that in control group (81.5%, 66.5%, 77.5%), and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The total number of air bacteria and the number of hand bacteria of medical personnel in observation group were significantly lower than that in control group (P<0.05). Infection rate of patients in observation group (2.0%) was significantly lower than that in control group (6.5%), and the difference was statistically significant (χ2=4.9762, P=0.0257). Qualification rates of seven steps of hand washing, hand washing indication and self-evaluation of daily hand washing were significantly higher than that in control group and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05). Conclusion The effect of application of PDCA cycle management mode in controlling infection in outpatient operating room is good and PDCA cycle management mode is worth to be popularized.
