Effect of Standardized Management on Hand Hygiene in Infection Department

Abstract: Objective To explore the application effect of standardized management on hand hygiene in infection department.Methods Since 2014, we conducted standardized management in infection department in order to improve hand hygiene status among staffs in our department. The main measures of standardized management included training staff, improving hand-washing facilities and developing supervision and management mechanism. The compliance of hand hygiene, the awareness rate of hand hygiene knowledge and the hand-washing status among medical care personnel before and after standardized management were compared.Results After the implementation of standardized management, medical care personnel's hand-washing rate after contacting with patients, conducting aseptic operation and exposing to body fluid was higher than before, and there was statistically significant difference (P<0.05). The awareness rate of hand hygiene knowledge among doctors, nurses and handymen after the implementation of standardized management was higher than before. The qualified rate of hand-washing way, disinfection and supervision was also higher than before. These differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion Standardized management is conducive to improving medical personnel's compliance of hand-washing in infection department and ensuring patients' healthcare safety.
