Abstract: Objective To explore the role of holistic health education in diabetes health management. Method 78 patients with diabetes who came to our hospital for treatment between June 2012 to June 2014 were randomly divided into treatment group and control group with 39 cases in each group. Under the same treatment procedures, patients in control group were given traditional health education while patients in treatment group were given holistic health education in addition. Observed and compared the blood sugar control situation, knowledge of diabetes, patients' self-management ability and patients' satisfaction of nursing service between two groups. Result The effective rate of blood sugar control, knowledge of diabetes, patients' self-management ability and patients' satisfaction of nursing service in the treatment group was 92.3%, 76.9%, 79.5%and 100%respectively while they were 82.1%, 43.6%, 46.2%and 94.9%respectively in the control group. It was found out that all indicators in the treatment group were much higher than the control group with statistical difference (P<0.05). Conclusion Holistic health education is much more effective than traditional health education for diabetes treatment management. It is worthy of further clinical application.
