Abstract: Objective To learn the current situation of doctor-patient relationship and propose countermeasures and suggestions of how to build a harmonious doctor-patient relationship. Methods Conducted questionnaire survey in 9 hospitals of Putuo district western health alliance with a total of 1190 medical staffs and 984 patients and their families. Results The comment from the doctors was more pessimistic than the patients in terms of the doctor-patient relationship. The majority of patients believe in doctors. Two sides shares different opinions on the main responsibility for the conflict between doctors and patients. Two sides have different opinions on the tension of the doctor-patient relationship and its solutions. Conclusion Improve the health care system and promote harmonious doctor-patient relationship. The news media should have a right orientation for public opinions. Enhance effective communication between doctors and patients and enhance trust between doctors and patients. Strengthen the moral responsibility of medical workers and improve the quality of medical services. Improve medical workers' income and protect their reasonable treatment. Give full play of community volunteers and promote them to become an effective link to maintain doctor-patient relationship.
