Abstract: Objective To investigate the coping model of family members of children with asthma and its influencing factors so as to provide evidence for health care workers to take effective interventions. Methods Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire (MCMQ) was used to investigate family members of 257 children with asthma and statistical analysis was conducted. Results The scores in confrontation and acceptance-resignation were higher than the norm; the difference in scores of avoidance was not statistically significant compared with the norm. Parents' age and the disease duration have no significant influence on coping modes and no difference in scores of each group was statistically significant. The scores in acceptance-resignation were different for parents of children with different genders as the parents of boy patients got lower score and the difference was significant, but no significant difference was observed in confrontation and avoidance between the two groups. The score in confrontation differed for different family members and the score for other family members was significantly higher than grand-parents and parent while no significant difference was observed for scores in other two factors. Score in confrontation for family members with different educational background was significantly different while scores in other two factors were not significantly different. Conclusion With proper intervention in the nursing process, family members will take more efficient coping modes which will be helpful for the recovery.
