The Effect of Community Nursing Intervention on the Mood of Elderly Patient with Chronic Heart Failure

Abstract: Objective To investigate the effects of community nursing intervention on mood and life quality of elderly patients with chronic heart failure. Methods 68 patients within the jurisdiction of Xiguan Street Community Health Service Center in Jinhua were randomly divided into experimental group and control group with 34 cases in each group in 2013. The community nursing intervention was applied in the experimental group while routine physician visits was taken in the control group. Comparison of changes in score of mood and life quality before and after the intervention between the groups was conducted. Results The scores of Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), Self-rating depression scale (SDS) and life quality were significantly lower after the intervention (P<0.05) in both groups. After the intervention, the average patients' score of the experimental group for SAS was 45.17±4.86, SDS 41.05±5.27, life quality (including physical limitation) 8.21±5.03, social constraints 3.99±1.52, the mood 5.33±3.62 and symptom 5.04±1.88, all of which were significantly lower than the control group (P <0.05). Conclusion Community nursing intervention can significantly improve the mood and life quality of elderly patients with chronic heart failure.
