Abstract: Objective To explore the effectiveness of origami therapy for patients with depression.Methods Four-week origami interventions composed of scenario creation, guided observation, music enjoyment, coaching and summarizing were provided to the patients with depression. Totally, 64 patients with depression completed the entire treatment plan. Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) was used to compare the scores between the two groups as well as that before and after each treatment and the evaluation included emotion and behavior inside and outside the classroom.Result The total effective rate of treatment in origami group was 100% and difference in the total scale and factor scores of HAMD between two groups as well as that before and after the each intervention was statistically significant.Conclusion Implementation of origami therapy can build a platform where patients with depression can gain positive energy and the combination of medication and special psychological treatment can produce better outcome.
