However, Cao Xueqin’s pursuit of meticulous color does not simply stop at the fine depiction of objects. His meticulous color shows the aristocratic life and deeply portrayed characters, contains anthropomorphic characteristics, reaching the realm of"beautiful but not tiresome, complicated but not bothersome". At the same time, Cao Xueqin is also good at and loves black watercolor. In his Hong Lou Meng, Jinling Twelve Hairpins Album is quite similar to and the painting album Zhongqinren Caozhan Huace in terms of painting techiques. The meticulous color and black watercolor form the dual tone of Cao Xueqin’s creation and life.
