Abstract: Muscat is the only port city on the Silk Road that passes through The Arabian Peninsula.Before the17 th century,Muscat was an entrepot,supplying shipping.In 1622,Muscat became an Portuguese important military base and port,and urban trade had began to develop.In 1650,the Arabs of Oman recaptured Muscat,and successive Sultans encouraged the development of trade,which flourished,not only in the Persian gulf,but also in the region.The prosperity of trade had a profound impact on Muscat,which not only made the city more diverse in population,religious culture and architecture,but also enhanced Muscat’s position in the gulf and Indian Ocean trading circle.
