Abstract: Jinyiwei, an imperial military agency of the Ming Court, has much powerful enforcement. This thesis focuses on the Luo family from Ningyuan County, Yongzhou Prefecture, Huguang Province in origin that has three members leading this imperial organization successively, Luo An of the early Jiajing’s( 嘉靖) region, Luo Sigong during the late Wanli’s( 万历) and early Tianqi’s( 天启) period and Luo Yangxing who is the last office head of the Ming Dynasty. The Ming hereditary system allows the descendants of the military family to serve in the Jinyiwei, but there are few like the Luo family that has three members of generations leading the agency. The Luo family lineage needs more research that starts with the rare materials available. This paper pieces together the historical literature about the Luo family members’ official career and posts for generations to clarify the historical events concerned.
