Abstract: Objective To carry out an analysis of CT features of intra-abdominal Desmoid-type fibromatosis(DF),the effect of surrounding structures on the intra-abdominal DF was investigated. Methods Retrospective analysis of the CT presentation was performed on 15 patients with intra-abdominal DF that were pathologically confirmed through surgery.15 cases were divided into the loose group and the dense group according to surrounding structures of every lesion. Results The lesions of all 15 patients were solitary. There were 9 cases in the loose group and 6 cases in the dense group. For the size of the lesion, the mean diameter of the lesion in the loose group was 7.18 ± 2.22 cm,the median value was 7 cm,and the diameter above 5 cm was 88.9%(8/9).The mean diameter in the dense group was about(5.32 ± 2.73) cm,the median value is 4.6 cm,and the proportion of those with the diameter more than 5 cm is 33.3%(2/6).For the growth pattern, there were 2 cases of expansive growth and 7 cases of infiltrative growth in the loose group. There were 5 cases of expansive growth and 1 case of infiltrative growth in the dense group. The cystic rate was 22.2%(2/9) in the loose group and83.3%(5/6) in the dense group. The non-enhanced CT value for the solid component of the lesions in the loose group and the dense group was basically equal and lower than the density of the muscle. For enhancement degree, most of lesions in two groups(88.9% in the loose group and 83.3% in the dense group) showed mild to moderate persistent enhancement. For enhancement pattern, the ratio of homogeneous enhancement to heterogeneous enhancement of solid lesions in both groups was almost equal. The ratio of homogeneous/heterogenous enhancement in the loose group was 5:4,and that in the dense group was 3:3.Conclusion The surrounding structures of the intra-abdominal DF have a great influence on the size of the lesion, the growth pattern and the probability of cystic degeneration. There is no significant effect on the density, enhancement degree and enhancement pattern of the lesion.
