Abstract: Objective Using the UEFI(upper extremity functional index,UEFI) questionnaire to assess the severity of lateral epicondylitis, then to study the relationship between the UEFI score and its MRI classification. Methods Using the UEFI questionnaire to get 22 UEFI values of the patients diagnosed with lateral epicondylitis.22 injured elbows underwent MRI examination.Analyzing the MRI images, the injury of the common extensor tendons were graded as Ⅰ(mild) 、Ⅱ(moderate) or Ⅲ(severe).Spearman’s rank correlation analysis was performed to compare the UEFI values with the injury of the common extensor tendons, and correlation was considered significant at P ﹤ 0.05.Results The UEFI values of 22 patients ranged from 18 to 77.On MRI images,22 patients all showed abnormal signal.Through analysis and statistics,9 elbows with Ⅰ(mild) injury of common extensor tendon,8 with Ⅱ(moderate) injury, and 5 with Ⅲ(severe)injury were detected.Negative correlation was found between the UEFI value and injury of common extensor tendon(r=-0.843,P<0.01).Conclusion MRI is an important tool for the diagnosis of lateral epicondylitis, which can grade the injury degrees of common extensor tendon.Negative correlation was found between the UEFI value and injury of common extensor tendon.
