Abstract: After The Opium War, a large number of western missionaries came to China. Not only did they carry out missionary activities, some missionaries also engaged in a lot of science and technology translation activities. These missionaries taught in the language schools that founded by the late Qing dynasty government, or the schools founded by the church. They created a complete translation training system, and translated a lot of European and American modern science books. These activites not only promoted the spread of western natural science knowledge in China and the development of modern Chinese science and technology, but also cultivated a large number of intellectual elites and translation talents for modern China, which played an important role in the process of Chinese modernization.
