Abstract: The epitaph of Qiaoyan founded in the early Tang dynasty in the Jinyuan district of Taiyuan city was as an early entity of Chinese calligraphy,which was listed in entry. The epitaph depicted the inscription and preface of the Jinci written by Li Shimin, in addition to that, the calligraphy of Wang Xizhi’s calligraphy were obvious, which was a strong evidence that the Tang dynasty emperors such as Li Shimin admired the style of Wang Xizhi’s calligraphy. It is also the earliest example of epitaph inscribed in Shangdang area, which served as an important material for the study of tomb etiquette and folk culture in Tang dynasty.
