Key Technology Review of Research on Regenerative Environmental Control and Life Support System for Space Station

Abstract: Realization of long-duration human space missions depends directly on the development of regenerative Environmental Control and Life Support System( ECLSS). Regenerative ECLSS is critical for the construction of China’s space station. Taking advantage of physical/chemical means for recovery of air and water from metabolic waste products and for regeneration of contaminant removal adsorbents,the operation costs of manned spacecraft in long-duration missions could be reduced. The development status of international regenerative ECLSS was reviewed in this paper. The technical system of regenerative ECLSS for China’s space station was proposed. The research results of the key technologies such as oxygen generation by electrolysis,CO2 removal,trace contaminant removal,water processing,urine processing were elaborated. Key issues of regenerative ECLSS practical application on China’s space station were also highlighted in this paper.
