Abstract: When Wei Guangtao was in charge of Yunnan, it was an important period for the Qing government to hold new deal in late Qing Dynasty.Considering about Yunnan’s remote, backward situation,President Wei Guangtao, by setting the officer school, to train a new army, sending students abroad and establishing new schools and other initiatives, held the Yunnan new deal, to conform to the aim of court that, make the country rich and its military force efficient. Although it can not change the fate of Qing Dynasty, but more or less promote the process of modernization in Yunnan.
