Survey on Oral health knowledge and behavior among pupils in Suyu District of Suqian

Abstract: Objective To understand the students’ oral health knowledge and related behaviors in primary schools in Suyu, as well as the channels from which they acquired health knowledge, and provide reference for establishing related intervention measures.Methods A cluster sample of 1200 students were chosen from a primary schools in Suyu District, a questionnaire survey was carried out among the students.Results pupils in this region have comparatively good daily oral health habits. About 80.3% of the students brushed their teeth every morning and evening. About 45.7% of student made oral clean after a meal,but about 46.4% of student brushed their teeth transversely.Meanwhile, pupils in this region have comparatively good awareness of Oral health knowledge,especially in questions about dental caries(accuracy is between 49.3%~90.0%).However,pupils in this area know very little about periodontal disease and pit and fissure sealing.About 64.3% of student never heard of pit and fissure sealing.The sealing rate was 5.5%.Conclusion The sense of oral health care of the students is no correlation with the region.Schools,parents,and medical institutions should join up to strengthen oral health knowledge propaganda and education so that the students can be trained with the good oral health habits.
