Abstract: Objective To investigate the infection rate of helicobacter pylori (HP) in patients with gastric cancer and the relationship with the pathogenesis of gastric cancer. Method 250 gastric cancer patients in plateau region and anoth-er 250 in plain region of China were enrolled in the analysis, all patients were examined by 14C-urea breath test for HP in-fection, and the correlation between HP infection and gastric cancer were analyzed. Result The rate of HP (+) in plateau region was higher than those in plain areas (P<0.01), with higher HP (+) rate observed in males of plateau region com-pared with females in plain areas (P<0.01);the HP (+) rate was consistently lower in patients aged≤40 years than those>40 years regardless of the region distribution (P<0.05);patients with HP (+) in plateau region and those with HP (-) in plain areas differed in regard of tumor sites, clinical stage, depth of invasion, and lymph node metastasis (P<0.05). Con-clusion The HP infection rate in male patients with gastric cancer in plateau region was significantly higher than that in plain areas, and HP infection may be related to the occurrence and progression of gastric cancer, so the patients in plateau region should be closely monitored for HP infection to reduce incidence of gastric cancer.
