Investigation on job satisfaction of bus drivers in Jinan City and its influencing factors

Abstract: [Objective] To explore the status and influencing factors of job satisfaction of bus drivers in Jinan City.[Methods] A total of 257 bus drivers from Jinan City participated in the investigation and they responded to the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire-short form scale.[Results] The total score of job satisfaction of the participants was 71.09±10.53,while intrinsic satisfaction score and external satisfaction score was respectively 43.43±6.23 and 20.31±4.33,which belonged to the general satisfaction level.The score of moral values of intrinsic satisfaction was the highest (3.93±0.99),and reward of external satisfaction got the lowest score (3.08±1.06).Single factor analysis of variance showed that the differences in job satisfaction were significant among bus drivers in different groups of gender,age,marital status,work time (P<0.05,P<0.01,P<0.001).Multivariate linear regression analysis showed that the influence of working time on job satisfaction was significant (B=-0.185,β=-0.38,t=-4.42,P<0.000).[Conclusion] The job satisfaction of bus drivers in Jinan City belongs to the general satisfaction level.Managers can promote the improvement of job satisfaction by the combination of improving internal motivation and increasing external incentive factors.
