Pre-evaluation of occupational hazards in new construction project of a coal power plant in Xinjiang

Abstract: [Objective] To identify and analyze the possible occupational hazard factors in new construction project of a coal power plant in Xinjiang,determine the hazards category,and provide feasible protection countermeasures and suggestions for occupational health.[Methods]The qualitative and quantitative assessment for the possible occupational hazards of this project was conducted with the combination of analogy and checklist method.[Results]The major occupational hazard factors in this project included dust,sulfur dioxide,nitrogen dioxide,carbon monoxide,ammonia,high temperature,noise and power frequency electric field.According to the detection results of the analogy project,the qualified rate of industrial dust and noise was 80.0% and 73.7%,while the concentrations of all toxic chemical substances and intensities of high temperature and power frequency electric field met the national standards.[Conclusion]This project is classified as the project with serious occupational hazards.If all the occupational health protection countermeasures are strict implemented,the occupational hazards of this project should be prevented and controlled.
