Effect of β-cypermethrin on content of dopamine in substantia nigra and striatum of rats

Abstract: [Objective] To observe the toxic effect of β-cypermethrin through the animal experiment,explore the neurotoxicity and its mechanism according to the change of the content of dopamine in rat striatum.[Methods] Male Wistar rats were randomly divided into β-cypermethrin low dose group (20 mg/kg),middle dose group (40 mg/kg),high dose group (60 mg/kg) and control group according to the body weight.The rats were treated by gavage for 30 days.The general condition and body weight changes were observed.The food utilization rate and organ coefficient were calculated,and high performance liquid phase chromatography was used to detect the content of dopamine in substantia nigra and striatum of rats.[Results] Compared with the control group,β-cyper methrin led to weight loss in rats (P<0.01) and the food utilization rate reduced significantly (P<0.01).The brain-to-body ratio in high dose group and middle dose group was higher than that in the control group (high dose group P<0.01 and middle dose group P<0.05).Compared with the control group,the content of dopamine in substantia nigra and striatum of high dose group and middle dose group significantly decreased,and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).[Conclusion] β-cypermethrin may lead to neurotoxicity by reducing the content of dopamine.
