Pathogen surveillance results of hand-foot-mouth disease in Heze City from 2013-2015

Abstract: [Objective] To investigate the pathogens of hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD) in Heze City from 2013-2015,analyze its epidemiological characteristics,and provide reference for the analysis and prevention of HFMD in future.[Methods] Fecal or anal swab specimens of the diagnosed cases were collected from the designated medical institutions of HFMD in every county/district of Heze City from 2013-2015 to extract the viral nucleic acid.Real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR was used to detect the nucleic acid of EV71,CoxA16 and other enterovirus.[Results] Totally 1 688 samples were collected from 2013-2015,and 1 434 samples were positive with the detection rate of 84.95%.There were 844 positive samples of EV71,197 positive samples of CoxA16 and 393 positive samples of other enterovirus,which the positive rate was 50.00%,11.67% and 23.28%,respectively.The difference in virus distribution was statistically significant among different years (P<0.05).[Conclusion] HFMD cases are primarily caused by EV71and CoxA16 in Heze City from 2013-2015.Among diagnosed cases,the pathogen detection rate in descending order is EV71,other enterovirus and CoxA16.The small outbreak caused by CoxA16 has happened in 2014,while EV71 is the dominant pathogen in 2013 and 2015.
