Relationship between mental health and coping style among emergency fire brigade in 8·12 Tianjin Port Explosion

Abstract: [Objective] To explore the influence of rescue mission for 8·12 Tianjin Port Explosion on mental health status of officers and soldiers in a fire brigade of Langfang City.[Methods] 80 officers and soldiers were collected from a fire brigade of Langfang City by the random sampling method,and investigated by the Symptom checklist 90 (SCL-90) and the Simple coping style questionnaire (SCSQ).SPSS 15.0 statistical software was applied in t-test and Pearson analysis.[Results] The scores of every factor in SCL-90 among Langfang fire brigade participated in rescue mission of 8· 12 Tianjin Port Explosion were lower than the military norms,and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).The scores for factors of interpersonal sensitivity,depression and paranoia were lower than the national norms,and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).There were not statistically significant differences in scores of every factor in SCL-90 between the respondents and a fire brigade of Hebei Province (P>0.05).The scores for factors of interpersonal sensitivity,depression and paranoia were lower than the armed police norms,and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).The total scores and every factor score (except somatization factor and psychosis factor) were significantly negatively correlated with negative coping score of SCSQ (P<0.05),and were not significantly correlated with positive coping score (P>0.05).[Conclusion] The rescue mission for 8· 12 Tianjin Port Explosion has no influence on mental health level of officers and soldiers in a fire brigade.The h negative coping style is closely related to mental health.
